Are you living someone else’s life?
I just finished an incredible book this week and the guy who wrote it had a term in it that I JUST HAD to share with you.
The book was by a guy named James Altucher called Choose Yourself. A friend of mine gave it to me a couple months ago and I just now got around to reading it. (I definitely need to get back to doing more of it and get off my mobile devices)
In it, he talked about purposefully taking a path different from everyone else around you. Cutting a path that you and only you were meant to live. He contrasted that with what he calls “plagiarizing others’ lives”.
That really hit home for me. i definitely remember a time where that’s all I wanted to do. You see, when I was in high school, my family broke apart and I ended up moving across town on a Tuesday night at 11pm.
It totally sucked.
After college, all I wanted to do was reinstate the life that I previously had and reverse all the crap I had to go through. But that life would have been a sham. I would have just been living someone else’s life and covering it with my name tag.
But there is a big problem. When we do this, we are following a model of life that doesn’t exist anymore. It’s like someone trying to open a record store today.
So how do you get to this dream life of yours? And what does it take to get there?
Great questions. It’s actually really simple.
In today’s lesson, I’m going to show you what I did to take me from the guy just trying to live the same mediocre life as everyone else to someone who is living the life I have always dreamed of (minus the books I should be reading).
